Kristi Yamaguchi launches fitness apparel?

Back in 1992, American figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi glided her way to an Olympic gold medal, and now she's stepping into the role of fashion designer with a new line of clothes for yoga, workouts, and running errands.

The New York Times best-selling author is rolling out a line of fitness apparel called Tsu.ya, which is a stylized version of her middle name. Announced Monday, the line will debut exclusively at Lord & Taylor department store in the in September (also available online) and will feature 18 pieces, including yoga pants, tanks, and jackets.

She says her inspiration for the line comes from working on the Olympic fashion committee for many years, and, more recently, being a busy, fit mother.

Kristi Yamaguchi's competitive spirit came in handy on "Dancing with the Stars," where she danced her way to a huge victory with the Cha-Cha. In 2008, Yamaguchi walked in the Red Heart Truth Show in to promote heart disease awareness.

While the entire line has yet to be premiered, fitness buffs can expect to see a line of pretty, practical fitness clothes with a hint of skating bling, i.e., some net ruching and rhinestone accents.

Additionally, a portion of Tsu.ya sales will go to Yamaguchi's Always Dream Foundation, which funds programs that improve child literacy.

Celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Anderson also recently launched a line of workout leggings, consisting of four styles designed for varying body types. Inspired by her Metamorphosis workout program -- a DVD program designed for individualized body types -- Anderson's leggings can be purchased exclusively through Edition01, a website that ships internationally.
